Dear Harper Lee:
I just finished reading your book To Kill a Mockingbird. It was a great book that told a story about a time when the United States was prejudiced against people of color.
The characters of Jem, Scout and Dill show how different childhood was back then compared to now. These kids had to grow up and learn about their world . They lived in a world that had a lot of issues with racism. They grew up quickly after the trial of Tom Robinson. They learned that the truth does not always count when there are blacks and whites involved.
Boo Radley was a character in the novel that never spoke a sound. Scout, Jen and Dill thought that Boo Radley was a ghost character because they never really saw him. The kids made up stories about Boo. Atticus found out and stopped them. Boo symbolizes innocence. You compared him to a Mocking bird. I like that.
When the movie was made, the directors kept as close as they could to the book. The actors they chose for the characters matched so that they looked and spoke like the book.
This book was good and I really enjoyed it. You should be proud that you wrote a book that tells how the world was back then.
